What Is the Biological Starting Point of Each Individual? How Much Muscle Are You Born With, or Without (Skinny Fat)?

How would understanding each individual’s biological starting point change the face of science and medicine? Imagine a world in which we can establish and quantitatively characterize a standardized baseline phenotype for human biological structure and development, and use a standardized phenotype classification system to compare individuals against that reference. A world in which total muscle tissue can be directly measured using a standardized framework, with a population reference baseline established to quantify and compare individual differences.
Instead of proxy measurements (1) and rough model (2) estimates that cannot establish a biological starting point or explain a person’s unique body shape and metabolism, our science will begin to characterize human biological differences more directly. Clinicians and individuals will gain new tools for understanding individual body structure, muscle development, and the biological factors associated with differences in metabolism.
Our Scientific Health Quizzes provide the initial foundation for this broader objective. As our scientific research advances, the goal is to establish the classification framework, standardized measurement methods, and real-world population reference data (3, 4) needed to move from preliminary classification toward an increasingly rigorous, evidence-based understanding of human biology.
What Is the Biological Starting Point of Each Individual? How Much Muscle Are You Born With, Or Without (Skinny Fat)?
This would fundamentally change how we understand individual differences in metabolism (5), body composition (6, 2), physical performance (7), and aging (8), as well as responses to diet (9), exercise (10), lifestyle (11), and medical interventions. Ultimately, it would provide a more scientific basis for understanding and addressing each individual’s unique biological needs.
Clinicians would have a much clearer understanding of each individual’s underlying physical structure, body composition, muscular development, metabolism, physical capacity, and aging trajectory—and would be able to measure how those characteristics change over time. How much muscle tissue you started life with, or without (skinny fat)(2). How much muscle you added via exercise — resistance (12) and cardio (13). How much muscle you lost via atrophy from poor diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices, as well as aging (sarcopenia)(14, 8). No less.
Instead of evaluating individuals primarily through isolated measurements, proxies, or generalized population categories and classifications, science and medicine would begin to characterize each person relative to clearly defined standard biological references. Not to mention, improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and affordability of healthcare. This is the potential of our MRI Study (15), advancing the establishment of a standardized baseline phenotype and a standardized measurement framework for human biological variation to better human health.
Scientific Health Quizzes – Understanding Your Biological Starting Point
Our suite of Scientific Health Quizzes includes the Scientific Body Type Quiz, Scientific Metabolism Quiz, Scientific Diet Quiz, Scientific Exercise Quiz, and Scientific Lifestyle Quiz to help identify your unique genetic body composition, shape, and overall health. The Quizzes serve as the necessary screening tools required to carefully develop the research cohort for the MRI Study. In turn, the MRI Study will help further validate the Quizzes.
The Quizzes are also available individually to the public. Accounts are free, private, secure, and anonymous (depending on what information you choose to give). Free options are available.
